What is latex and what is it used for?

15 August 2024

Latex (rubber milk Latin. latex sap, liquid) – a colloidal solution of natural (natural latex) or synthetic (synthetic latex) rubber in a liquid substance. Natural latex is obtained directly from the milky sap of rubber-producing plants.

Method of obtaining

The rubber tree is cut, and the rubber milk flows into containers. This happens in the early morning hours from 5 to 10, because latex not collected at the right time changes its physical properties due to temperature—it becomes more sticky and can solidify. The collected latex goes into special tanks where it is spun off from water, and then ammonia is added as a preservative. After spinning and preserving, latex “matures” for 21 days.

Both the quality of the latex and the chemical mixture used for balloon production affect the quality of the final product.
